Dr Michele Campopiano

Dr Michele Campopiano is Senior Lecturer in Medieval Latin Literature at the University of York. Among his many research interests are the representation of space in the Middle Ages, and the interconnections between societies of Europe – particularly Italy – and the Middle East in the same period.

He is currently working with Guy Geltner (University of Amsterdam) on a research project Cultural Memory and Identity in the Late Middle Ages: the Franciscans of Mount Zion in Jerusalem and the Representation of the Holy Land (1333-1516). Michele is also completing two critical editions: one of an anonymous 14th century Latin description of the Holy Land and a sixteenth century Italian poem, also anonymous, on Alexander the Great.
