I am professor of medieval studies at Birkbeck, University of London. My research is into the literary aspects of Jerusalem and Holy Land pilgrimage in the later Middle Ages. In particular, I’m interested in the role of imagination and memory in the construction of sacred space, and the role of reading in the making of a pilgrimage.
